Shopping for a Cause

"Bridge The Gap" isn't just a charity that Girls Night In has decided to support - it is close to one of our organizers heart. Christine Mongrain, and her husband Greg, are foster parents and have seen the help that this program does give - and the little lives it effects.

From everything to summer camp to gymnastics lessons - Bridge the Gap gives to foster children what isn't necessarily provided to them. The extra's . . the extra specials!

(Posted on Bridge the Gap website http://www.btgcc.com/)
Bridge the Gap is a community outreach program designed to enrich the lives of abused and neglected children in Clark County, WA. To do this, Bridge the Gap provides resources to enhance the stability, growth and success of children infoster and adoptive care. Our vision is to "give every child a childhood".

5898 referrals of abused and neglected children were received by DCFS between July 1, 2007 and June 30, 2008 and Bridge the Gap:
provided birthday gifts to 248 children in 2008
provided holiday gifts for hundreds of children
served 241 children through the Little Wishes program in 2008

Let Us Introduce ~ Lou Denny

As one of our favorite local (well, okay - across the bridge local) girls newsletter – Portland Picks – featured Lou on their site, we will let them do the introducing!

“When the clerks at TJ’s give you dirty looks for taking their paper bags, you know it’s time to switch up. And what’s cuter than a pin-up glamour girl on a great tote that you’ll use every day? We love these bags from Lucky Lou. With vintage embellishments like blinged rhinestones, they’re a diva-licious alternative to generic bags. Plus the sturdy cotton/canvas means they’ll last for years, and they have… pockets!”

And that’s not all. . .here are some more interesting tidbits about Lou. .

Family or interesting fact about you: I love to be on the go, I love the outside and I enjoy everything from Nascar to sewing and quilting. I was featured on the Portland Picks Guide to Green for the Glam Girl bags. . .

How and why did you start up your business? I think every woman has a 'sassy side' to herself and this year when I turned fifty, I thought it was time to celebrate and express this wonderful side of myself with other 'vixens' so I chose to do this with the Glamour Girls of the 40's and 50's!
They are so much fun! I love to use them on totes, postcards, aprons, and could you imagine your next girls night with these ladies as placemats and napkins! Who knows where you might see these flirts of the fifties!

What’s your “Day Job” if you have one? My Day job (and joy!) is the opportunity to care for my 2 grand daughters, and my other job is renting out specialty linens and chair covers for weddings and special events.

Favorite part of your business: Collecting the Glamour Girls pics and thinking of new ways share them

How do you relax? I love time with my family and my personal time is spent collecting fabric for quilts, I would say quilting, but I seem to run out of time for that!
Any special promotions going on the night of the event?
I am reducing the price to $25 for the tote bags, and introducing fabric vintage postcards!

Let Us Introduce ~ Karolyn Seroshek

Who doesn’t love a glass of great wine? Red or White – there’s always a favorite! But sometimes we get caught up in “what to get” and settle for something with a cute label! So I'm here to help! Book a party, and I'll lead you through a fun tasting and food–in the comfort of your own home and your own friends and family! What a great way to spend an evening!

Here’s more about Karolyn. .

Family or interesting fact about you: I live in Tacoma with my husband and two children. We currently have 2 dogs, 2 cats, 2 frogs, 2 ducks, 2 chickens, 2 rabbits, and 1 potbellied pig named Suzie.

How and why did you start up your business? I’ve told my husband in the last few years that I wanted to do something that would help bring in money, since I stay at home with my children. I also noticed that I get invited to parties (pampered chef, scrap booking, partylite, etc.) quite often and so far have never been invited to a wine party. Yes, of course, there is wine served at these parties but never wine tasting and I always favored the wine that I knew most about. So one day I went to a multi- vendor party and found someone there from Wine Shop at Home and decided right then to sign up to be a consultant. I’ve only been with the company for a few months now and have branched out to enjoying more wine, wine that I never thought I would like. It’s interesting to meet new people and see their reaction to tasting our wines for the first time. It’s fun!

What’s your “Day Job” if you have one? I am a stay at home mom and also watch my sister’s kids while she works as a school teacher.

Favorite part of your business: wine tasting of course!

How do you relax? My most relaxing time of the day is cooking dinner and sipping wine. My kids are occupied with homework, piano lessons, or tv time.

Any special promotions going on the night of the event? For every bottle purchased that is on hand, I will donate the tax to Bridge the Gap. Any wine that is ordered, I will donate $2 to Bridge the Gap. Any new bookings scheduled, I will donate $5 to Bridge the Gap. Side note: Cash or check only for wine on hand, credit card or check only for ordered product.
